Dental crowns and tooth bridges are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto existing teeth or implants. They can only be removed by a dentist and are different from dentures, which are removable. A crown is used to entirely cover a damaged tooth, improving its appearance, shape, or alignment. It can also strengthen a damaged tooth and provide a tooth-like structure for function when placed on top of an implant. A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth and is cemented to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space. Before making a crown or bridge, the tooth (or teeth) must be reduced in size, and an impression is made to provide an exact mold. A dental lab then creates the crown or bridge in the material specified by the dentist. Good oral hygiene is essential to ensure the longevity of crowns and bridges, and regular checkups and professional cleanings are recommended.
